OPPO to launch world’s first Qualcomm 5G-powered smartphone

OPPO has announced that it will be the first company in the world to launch a 5G smartphone adopting the new Qualcomm 5G chip, bringing an upgraded 5G experience to the users.

The smartphone is set for a commercial release in Q4 2019.

Launched at the IFA Berlin 2019, the new Qualcomm 5G chip is the first that integrates 5G baseband and the 5G modem into the processors. The chip has strong AI capability and enables an optimised gaming experience.

Ethan Xue, president, OPPO MEA, said, “OPPO has always strived to provide its customers across the globe with the latest and most advanced technology. Launching the world’s first smartphone supporting the new Qualcomm 5G chip reinforces OPPO’s commitment to delivering a seamless and exceptional user experience through its unique and premium products.”

The Qualcomm 5G chip will have 5G integrated into a SoC (System-on-Chip) and supports all key regions and frequency bands. This highly efficient mobile platform built on 7nm process technology is designed to exceed what is expected from today’s high-tier mobile experiences by bringing select premium-tier features to a broader audience.

OPPO has also launched its first commercially-ready 5G smartphone in the GCC earlier this month. The smartphone combines the next generation connectivity of 5G with the power of OPPO’s premium Reno series for a superior user experience.
