As part of a wider measure to become more competitive and reduce costs Ericsson is looking to enact job cuts. The proposed cuts would see around 1,600 employees lose their jobs in Ericsson’s home market Sweden.
In a statement, Ericsson explained the proposed staff reduction forms part of a global initiative to improve its cost position, while maintaining investments critical to its business.
It pointed to an ongoing focus on delivering on a strategy around programmable networks which enable “differentiated services and new monetisation opportunities”.
Initiatives to increase operational efficiency “will continue across the group but will not be announced separately”, it stated.
Ericsson submitted the job cut proposal to the Swedish Public Employment Service and initiated negotiations with relevant Swedish trade unions.
Bloomberg reported Ericsson has around 12,600 employees in Sweden, meaning the cuts proposed impact around 13 per cent of its staff. It employs 90,000 people globally. The company reduced staff in Sweden by 1,200 in 2024 and 1,400 in 2023.
Ericsson is scheduled to reveal its Q4 2025 financial results on 23 January.
