Comcast launches significant product expansion

U.S. cable operator Comcast recently launched a significant product expansion for its Xfinity Mobile MVNO. This included debuting a plan that includes device protection and international roaming at a flat monthly price.

The move marks a direct challenge to Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile U.S., with Xfinity claiming subscribers switching from the trio can cut their monthly bills in half.

Moving forward it will offer two plans, Mobile Plus and Mobile Select, for new customers and existing users wanting to switch to a new deal.

The headline offer is Mobile Plus, a plan priced at $45 per month which includes lifetime protection against damage, loss and theft for phones, tablets and smartwatches. It covers Xfinity-purchased handsets and those bought elsewhere.

Device protection has traditionally been sold as a time of purchase add-on with recurring monthly fees.

Eligible customers will also receive uncapped device upgrades, without requiring inspections, mandatory trade-ins or a set waiting period tied to a financing cycle.

Mobile Select, priced at $30, targets value-oriented subscribers who still want international roaming and up to 1Gb/s speeds on Xfinity Wi-Fi, without paying for the premium tier’s protection and upgrade perks.

Xfinity Mobile runs on Verizon’s network and is only available when bundled with the company’s home internet.

Wave7 Research analyst Jeff Moore told Mobile World Live the new tiers are part of the maturation of Xfinity Mobile as a wireless competitor.

“Xfinity Mobile is working to boost ARPU while providing more for the dollar, beginning with the inclusion of device protection with its top plan,” he said. “The Global Travel Pass and the anytime upgrade features also show this maturation”.

“As before, Xfinity Mobile is trying to differentiate via its PowerBoost feature, which provides high speeds when connected to any of its 23 million Wi-Fi hotspots.”

He explained Xfinity Mobile has consistently added more than 300,000 subscribers each quarter “and these changes will help”.

Moore noted the brand has about 665 retail stores “and a handful of stores are added each month,” which he expects to help “with execution of these initiatives”.

By the end of Q4 2025, Comcast reported a total of 9.3 million lines for Xfinity Mobile after adding 364,000.
