Apple recently announced plans to move part of Mac mini desktop computers production from Asia to the U.S. state of Texas in 2026, as part of an effort to increase domestic manufacturing.
The iPhone-maker stated the assembly will take place in Houston at the same location it produces AI servers, including logic boards produced onsite, for use in data centres.
To bolster its US-based manufacturing workforce, Apple will open a 20,000‑square‑foot advanced manufacturing centre in Houston later this year. The facility will offer hands‑on instruction in production techniques to students, supplier employees and businesses.
“Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we’re proud to significantly expand our footprint in Houston with the production of Mac mini starting later this year”, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated.
He also noted the tech giant started shipping the AI servers made in Houston ahead of schedule, adding “we’re excited to accelerate that work even further”.
The move is part of a $600 billion investment Cook discussed with President Donald Trump last year during a press conference at the White House.
In fiscal Q1, Apple reported Mac revenue dipped 6.7 per cent to $8.4 billion. Apple does not break out Mac mini as a standalone item in its earnings reports.
