Symantec appoints new CTO

Symantec has announced the appointment of Amit Mital as Chief Technology Officer, who will be responsible for technology strategy, focusing on innovation, product development and R&D.

Mital will report directly to Symantec CEO Steve Bennett, and joins Symantec after 20 years with Microsoft.

Most recently he worked as corporate vice president for the company’s Startup Business Group, where he was responsible for managing strategic product development along with identifying and executing new innovation opportunities.

Mital holds 43 patents and is an innovator in several technologies that align with Symantec’s business including machine learning, big data and high scale web and cloud services.

“Amit is a leader with proven abilities to innovate, develop and execute new products,” said Steve Bennett, President and Chief Executive Officer, Symantec. “We’re on track executing roadmaps to leverage Symantec’s technology to solve our customer’s most important problems and Amit’s expertise will help us move faster and more effectively in this stage of our transformation. We are thrilled to add such a talented executive to our leadership ranks.”
