UAS Dubai named SMART Showcase School

The Universal American School (UAS) in Dubai has been named the first SMART Showcase School in the United Arab Emirates by Smart Technologies, a provider of collaboration solutions. The K–12 school was chosen because of its outstanding use of SMART products, including SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Notebook collaborative learning software, demonstrating how UAS teachers and administrators have embraced SMART products to enhance teaching and learning.

With SMART Board interactive whiteboards in 90% of classrooms, and with SMART Notebook software installed on more than 200 computers, teachers are using the award-winning software to deliver interactive lessons across all grades and a wide range of subject areas.

Administrators and teachers at UAS first introduced SMART products to their classrooms in 2008 as part of a commitment to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) into classrooms. With a mandate to encourage a high standard of academic achievement, personal development and the freedom to create and explore, UAS has provided several teachers with advanced-level SMART Board interactive whiteboard training.

In addition, the school has created formal positions for educational ICT coordinators, responsible for further ICT integrations and professional development for teachers. With SMART Board interactive whiteboard and SMART Notebook software now used in classes each day, UAS administrators and teachers believe they have successfully provided students with the tools and capabilities to excel in an increasingly technology-driven society.

“As one of the leading educational institutions in the UAE, we are committed to providing our students with a progressive outlook and the necessary tools to help them excel through technology-enabled learning,” said Dr. Gunther Brandt, Director of the Universal American School. “We are proud to have been chosen as the first SMART Showcase School in the UAE; incorporating SMART products into our curriculum has helped create an engaging and interactive learning environment that has measurably contributed to improving teaching and learning throughout our entire school.”

“The SMART Showcase School program is a unique way to appreciate the efforts of educational institutions that are committed to integrating technology and interactive learning opportunities into their classrooms through the strong use of SMART products,” says Aaron Fright, SMART’s Area Manager, Middle East. “The Universal American School is at the forefront of introducing ICT and collaborative learning techniques into the school’s curriculum and we are pleased to welcome them as our first SMART Showcase School in the UAE.”
