Apple registers record smartphone growth in India.
Worldwide PC shipments totaled 64.8 million units in the first quarter of 2016, a 9.6 percent decline from the first quarter of 2015, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc.

Windows’ share of the tablet market grew slightly in the second quarter, as shipments also ticked up in the face of a slow-down by tablets overall, researcher IDC said today.

Taking a look at IDC’s smartphone numbers, one thing is clear – success currently comes to those making iPhones and Android devices.

Microsoft last week prepped Wall Street for a 2 percent slip in Windows revenue for the third quarter, but warned that PC shipments will continue their double-digit tumble.

Weakness in the global economy, component shortages, sluggish demand for Windows 8 and the popularity of tablets all contributed to another double-digit percentage decline for the global PC market in the second quarter.

Gartner today projected that the overall decline in shipments of desktop and laptop PC’s will be 10.6 percent in 2013, while tablet shipments will grow by 67.9 percent.
