ProCurve unveils new SMB switches

The ProCurve 2910 line is comprised of four switches. It is designed to allow SMBs to easily scale and manage a growing gigabit network.

The line includes two 24-port and two 48-port managed Layer 2 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet switches that include SFP slots for optional fiber uplinks.

The 2910 series offers a fixed-port Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE Plus) configuration, and two non-PoE switches. The PoE Plus option provides more power for devices such as wireless access points, VoIP phones and Pan/Tilt/Zoom security cameras at the edge of the network.

The non-PoE versions allow customers to utilize switches in environments with readily available power supplies, HP ProCurve says.

All switches provide multicast traffic control, IPv6 host functionality, and RIP IPv4 routing.

HP ProCurve also rolled out three 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules for the 24-port 2910 switches so customers can increase bandwidth and attach peripherals as their networks expand.

Citing data from Miercom, HP ProCurve says the 2910 line provides 23% energy cost savings when compared with the industry average, based on typical usage cost. Based on testing metrics, Miercom determined the annual running cost for the HP ProCurve 2910al-48G switch to be $67 compared with the Industry Average of $87, HP ProCurve says.

The switches support the LLDP-MED standard for dynamic power allocation and optimization.

The switches are priced from $2,609 to $6,599. The modules cost $779 to $2,099. All products are available April 1.
