Sony to build Egypt’s first HD studio

Sony will install what will be the first state of the art HD studio in Egypt for Dream TV as part of its ambitious expansion plans. The transition to High Definition (HD) continues its accelerated growth globally. As channels and content providers make the swift change to HD ready, the demand is interestingly being further fuelled by the global consumer who is now making a conscious decision to own superior viewing technology that can only be delivered by High Definition.

“The demand has spilled over to our markets; the region has witnessed keen consumer interest in HD in terms of enquiries and purchase. Content providers like Dream TV are gearing up for the demand for HD content and we’re committed to being active partners to help address this demand for technology advancement,” said Vivian Saldanha, Head of Broadcast Sales, Sony Professional Solutions ME.

Dream TV confirmed its order this February, with scheduled shipments expected to reach this month. The installation will be carried out by the Sony professional services team with a process cycle of commissioning and training to be rolled out over August 2008.

“When we took the decision to equip our new studio complex with permanent equipment, our CEO & Dream TV founder, Dr. Ahmed Bahgat decided that it would have to be the latest – HD. Our objective is to address the emerging HD demand thoroughly, so we set the bar very high. Sony met our demands with a solution and product mix that will enable us to continue to pioneer broadcasting in Egypt as we step into the future of HD broadcasting” said Aly Mostafa, Chief Engineer, Dream TV, Egypt.

“Our HD studio will be the first of its kind in Egypt and we’re absolutely sure that Sony’s design and support will help us achieve broadcasting excellence for our global operations,” he added.

Dream TV will start to use the completed Sony HD solution once the processing phase is complete.

“We participated in tough negotiations for over a year to partner with Dream TV and their plans for the future,” said Youssef Wahsh, Sony’s official representative in Egypt for over 20 years.

“The brief was simple, to design the most up-to-date HD studio solution enabling Dream TV to expand its reach globally with cutting edge HD content. We designed a winning combination – the right consultancy, a customised design with a product that meets their needs and dedicated after sales support. HD is the viewing platform of the future, our markets are fast adopting this trend and we’re proud to say that Dream TV is fully equipped to capitalise on HD’s future with Sony,” said Wahsh.
