HP ?Touch the Green? campaign encourages consumers to recycle

The campaign, which has been running from last week ends today Monday 26 April and is aimed at encouraging shoppers to drop off their old PCs, laptops and computing accessories at the Central Court stand at the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

Consumers who donate their old PCs and laptops for recycling will be rewarded with a AED400 cash-back voucher and those who donate old computing accessories will receive a 30% discount voucher for accessories, redeemable at authorised retailers within the Mall of the Emirates. HP’s recycling initiative is in collaboration with Enviroserve.

Salim Ziade, GM for HP Middle East Personal Systems Group (PSG) said, “At HP, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our environmental impact. To date we have already recycled over 1 billion cumulative pounds around the world, and we hope to double the annual recovery rate to reach 2 billion pounds by the end of the year. Our Environmental Campaign is not just about recycling per se, but equally as important is the aim to educate the public about the importance of recycling and recognising the need for individual action.”

The Environmental Campaign is the latest initiative from HP to counter its environmental impact. Since the 1950’s, global citizenship has been one of the company’s core objectives. HP has been recycling electronics since the 1980s and, in 1992, HP formalised its efforts in its Design for the Environment programme which prioritises energy efficiency, materials innovation and design for recyclability.

HP now leads important efforts to increase environmental and social standards in technology and beyond. 90% of HP’s notebooks and workstations are recyclable and HP’s commitment to reducing the amount of steel used in desktops has saved enough steel to build an Eiffel Tower. HP is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and its impact on climate change and is also a leader in innovative waste reduction practices throughout all of its operations.

Salim continued to say that HP influences industry action through its long-standing commitment to maintain supply chain responsibility, sustain energy efficient operations, reduce its climate impact and offer product reuse and recycling options.

HP Middle East is taking a major step to make further headway in the company?s global commitment to pursue a sustainable model of business, after the vendor unveiled its ?Touch the Green? campaign, which encourages consumers to recycle their old PCs, laptops and PC accessories.
