The ML 1660 laser printer model from Samsung is one of the smallest printers on the market. This recently released model from Samsung comes in at a very tidy AED329 price tag. Like most budget models, it connects to your PC via USB only but features 1200×600dpi resolution and claims a print speed of 16 pages per minute (ppm).
However, in actual real-life applications, I found the printer to be slightly slower than that – printing our a 11-page Microsoft Word all-text document on A4 paper, the ML-1660 took exactly 10seconds to spit out the first page and 45 seconds altogether to pump out all 11 pages.
The print quality on text is basically as good as one would expect from a laser printer. On the flip side, the character formation, particularly on serif fonts, was just slightly thinner than with most LaserJet models on the market.
When it came to printing out my home photos, the unit produced noticeable banding, which I think makes it incompatible to that line of work.
By bringing to market one of the smallest laser printers, Samsung has not only answered the call made by many users with limited desk space, but has also simplified printing.
The printer is great and gets a recommendation as its form factor is something that most users like me will value. According to Samsung, the replacement toner cartridge will cost you roughly AED368 and last 1500 pages so it’s a little more expensive to run than other budget model laser printers in Canon’s stable.
Overall, if you’re looking to print images as much as text, I probably wouldn’t choose this one first but for text, it does a superb job, but one thing to consider when buying any printer is the consumables costs.
Have you ever had problems with limited desk space in your office? If you value desk space then the recently released compact laser printer will be ideal for home or office use.
