Review: Realme 5 Pro

4.3 out of 5

The Realme 5 Pro is one of the latest mid-range phone in the UAE market, we took it for a spin and here’s what we think…Realme 5 Pro

Realme 5 Pro flaunts laser carved crystalline patterns with a polished surface on the back. The handset is available in two colours: Crystal Green and Crystal Blue. Picking it up, the device is noticeably light, and the back panel is made from plastic. Nonetheless, its glossy finish catches the light nicely making it easy on the eyes, however, it makes keeping the device smudge-free challenging. Fortunately, it ships with a clear silicon case in the box.

The side chassis is also made of plastic. The left panel houses the sim-tray and volume rocker, while the power key can be found on the right edge. The buttons are aptly spaced and have decent tactile feedback. At the bottom edge, you can find the USB-C port, audio jack and speaker grills.

The smartphone has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3+-protected 6.3-inch LCD screen and has a resolution 2340 x 1080 pixels. Keeping up with the trend, you can find a water-drop notch in the front housing the selfie camera. The smartphone produces bright and decent visuals, however, when watching videos the colours tend to be inaccurate and bland as compared to the Realme X2 Pro.

Deviating from the norm in the smartphone industry today, the device has no display-embedded fingerprint scanner instead it has a rear-mounted scanner for fast unlocking.

The Realme 5 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor. The smartphone’s performance is generally smooth and speedy with only a small amount of lag when switching between apps. The review unit we got has an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, but it also available in 4GB+64GB and 6GB+64GB options. The smartphone runs Color OS 6.0 on top of Android 9.0 making the user interface feel fluid and responsive.

The smartphone features a quad-camera setup, which protrudes slightly on the back. The Realme 5 Pro cameras are impressive with a 48MP f/1.8 primary shooter, an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro, and 2MP portrait snappers. With good light, the primary camera can produce some impressive shots, but it tends to produce images with warmer tones.

The device does not have a telephoto lens but it is equipped with pre-set 2x and 5x digital zoom options. You can also manually go all the way up to 10x, but expect a lot of noise in the photos when you do. It also has Nightscape and Chroma boost modes for low light environments.

Meanwhile, the 16 MP selfie shooter also produces impressive portraits. It is also packed with a “Beauty Mode” AI refinements that allows you to customise your selfies with tweaks such as face lifting, face slimming, nose thinning, and contouring.

The most impressive aspect about Realme 5 Pro is its reliable battery life. The device packs a 4035mAh battery, which lasts good day and a half of moderate to high usage. The handset supports VOOC Flash Charge, which juices up the smartphone really fast. The device does not support wireless charging, which is expected for a smartphone at this price range.

Overall, the smartphone packs a number of noteworthy given its budget price. If you’re looking for a trendy handset that supports fundamental mobile tasks without breaking the bank, the Realme 5 Pro is worth considering.
