Oman to establish new science and technology university

Oman’s Minister of Education has reportedly announced that it will establish a new university of science and technology in Muscat.

According to reports, the ministerial decision No. 19/2018 to “Establish the National University of Science and Technology”, was issued by Dr. Rawiya Al Busaidi, Minister of Higher Education.

The decision was made in accordance with the agreement by the education board during its third meeting in November last year (25/9/2017), to establish a private university by merging the Caledonia College of Engineering and Oman Medical College.

The directive states that, “A private university shall be established by merging the colleges of Caledonia and Oman medical college, it shall be named the National University of Science and Technology, which shall have legal personality. The university shall be located in Muscat, and will include three faculties, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Faculty of Pharmaceuticals.”

It also notes that both Omanis and expats can join the university, in accordance with all the terms and conditions set by the university board. The article states, “The university accepts Omani and foreign students with General Education Diploma or its equivalent, in accordance with the terms and conditions that are set by the university’s board.”
