Fortinet secures remote and branch office environments

Fortinet, a network security and unified threat management (UTM) solutions provider, has launched a new FortiGate multi-threat security appliance for remote office and branch office (ROBO) environments.

The newly released FortiGate-200B appliance rounds out Fortinet's mid-enterprise family of products that include three other FortiGate appliances: the -310B, -620B and -1240B products.

Targets mid-enterprise segment

FortiGate-200B is an entry-level product within the mid-enterprise segment and offers high performance with 5 Gbps firewall and 2.5 Gbps IPSec virtual private network throughputs. According to company officials, the new network security appliance is best suited for remote and branch office locations.

The new appliance will be generally available this month and Fortinet intends to ship it with FortiOS 4.0 MR1, the newest version of Fortinet's operating system. FortiGate-200B has the ability to deliver high port density with 16 ports, and all of these ports are accelerated with FortiASIC processors.

Affordable network segmentation

Perhaps the best thing about hardware acceleration and high port density is that it makes wire-speed performance and network segmentation very affordable. Thus even small organisations working on small budgets can use this product without worrying about huge expenses.

Anthony James, vice president of products, Fortinet, said his company has designed its mid-enterprise product family to deliver the best possible security performance and functionality at every price point.

Fortinet realises the tough competition in the mid-enterprise segment, and is offering four very competitive, high-value products to address the diverse and demanding requirements of this customer segment.
