Acer takes on the Nexus 7 with 7.9" Intel tablet

Acer-Iconia-A1-830-ad1The new A1-830 tablet ticks all of the right boxes for people interested in a functional tablet sporting the sub 8-inch form factor. The tablet sports a 7.9-in, 1024×768 resolution screen at a 4:3 screen ratio; ideal for web browsing and reading e-books.

One thing stands out glancing over the A1-830’s spec sheet, and that is its Intel CPU. The Intel Atom Z2560 is a dual-core CPU running at 1.6GHz, but it uses hyper-threading technology to virtually map out four cores.

Working alongside the CPU is 1GB of DDR2 SD RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Multimedia users will appreciate the option to expand storage by up to 32GB through the microSD memory slot, and the device’s stereo speakers.

The tablet operates on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It also has two cameras, with a 5MP rear camera capable of full HD (1080p) video recording, and a secondary 2MP camera on its face capable of high definition (720p) video conferencing.

Then there’s the A1-830’s connectivity repertoire. It is equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and like Asus’ Nexus 7, it doesn’t support the new and improved ac standard. Where the Nexus 7 does edge ahead is with its inclusion of the latest Bluetooth 4.0 standard. In comparison, the A1-830 makes do with the now succeeded Bluetooth 3.0.

The A1-830 is available in stores now for $249.
